Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed, was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan) who was a former actor and English teacher and Harry Hyra, a maths teacher. She has Ruthenian, Polish, Irish, and German heritage ("Hyra" is a Ruthenian surname, and "Ryan" is the maiden name of her maternal grandmother). Meg has graduated from Bethel high school in Bethel in June 1979. Moving to New York, she attended New York University where she majored in journalism. To earn some extra cash while completing her studies, Meg went into acting under the name Meg Ryan. 1981 was her debut on the big screen. She portrayed Candice Bergen's daughter in the film of George Cukor Rich and Famous (1981). She tried out and was chosen to play Betsy in the daytime television soap As the World Turns (1956). She was part of the cast from 1982 to 1984. Meg was also part of the television series One of the Boys (1982), which was quickly removed. In 1984, she moved to a tinsel town, and got an appearance in the western TV series Wildside (1985). Meg had a small role in Top Gun (1986), which led her to be cast in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) where she played alongside Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred again with Quaid. (1988) and they were married on Saint Valentine's Day in 1991. Meg played the lead role in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), that made the scene at the restaurant famous. Meg was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She starred with Tom in the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg decided to act as if she was a rebel as an alcoholic spouse and mother in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Then, she went back to "cute" with both I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1996). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the 50 most beautiful people on earth 1994.
