Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actor and director, well-known for her sex appeal and edginess as well as for her work in the field of humanitarian aid. Her part in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was the part she won in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her early life in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. After having attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, she then enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. Then she went on to study acting at New York University. She also acted in theatre productions and modeled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) that Jolie was introduced to Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1996; divorcing 1999). It wasn't well-loved as were a number of other films. Jolie was the segregationist wife of Alabama's governor, garnering plenty of attention in 1997. She later received a Golden Globe Award. In the HBO movie Gia in which she was a model who suffered from drug addiction. She received numerous honors, including the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. She appeared alongside John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. The following year, she was married to Thornton (divorced in 2003). She played the role of the girlfriend of an armed carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopted an accent that resembled a British accent and was able to master combat sports and street fighting for the roles of the title in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). In 2004 she portrayed the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also appeared alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a science-fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films did poorly at the box office, however Jolie made a splash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She played a woman who pretended to be an assassin. While working on the film she became acquainted with Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
